Fostering Diversity
Fostering diversity among students, researchers, and faculty is a priority for our department. We work to create an inclusive environment and are committed to improving the representation of underrepresented minority groups within the field of ecology and evolution. Such a diversity brings together a wide range of experiences and worldviews enriching the overall graduate school experience. We encourage students from a diverse range of backgrounds to apply to our PhD program.
Graduate students from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Department of Entomology, and the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University joined forces to build the Diversity Preview Weekend (DPW). This two-day event brings together students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing graduate work at Cornell or other institutions a year before students are planning to apply to graduate school. The weekend provides workshops and guidance on the application process, immerses participants in the graduate community at Cornell, and facilitates networking with faculty, graduate students and other participants. If you identify as an underrepresented minority student (Black/African American, Latinx or Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander, or first generation college student), or you inhabit another axis of minority status (e.g. LGBTQIA, disabled persons, low income), this event is for you.
